I have left my December special guest for the last day of the year. Why? Because 2020 has been truly amazing for me, despite everything that has happened all over the world. I have achieved many business & personal goals including becoming an Australian citizen.
I wanted to end this year on a high note and what better way of doing that than having….DRUM ROLL PLEASE….Chyka Keebaugh as my guest. When she said yes, I almost fell of my chair….well, I can tell you for sure that I was bouncing up and down (some friends can confirm that).
She is my true inspiration in life/career & I have been following her since I was still living in London. For those of you that don’t know her, allow me a bit of introduction:
Chyka alongside her husband Bruce owns The Big Group- one of if not the biggest event company in Australia. They also have a hire brand called Design Depot – I have collaborated with them on a few occasions and I can guarantee that the professionalism is beyond expectations.
She has been on ‘The Real Housewives of Melbourne’, collaborated with lots of awesome brands, owns an online magazine chyka.com & she is an author, having published Chyka Home (which I have and love) and Chyka Celebrate. These are just a few of the amazing things she has done. Do you understand now why I am so stoked to have her answering my questions?
P.S. she said that nobody has asked her these questions before – it felt pretty good considering that she has done a fair share of interviews in her career.
I hope you enjoy her answers just as much as I did and thank you again Chyka for taking the time to make this blog post possible.
1. Tell me something about you that only your family knows
That’s a hard one… Probably that I am someone who absolutely loves cleaning. I actually get pure joy from cleaning out cupboards, colour coding the wardrobe, polishing silver and organising cupboards. It really is a passion. I have done this for lots of my friends..
2. What makes you roll your eyes every time you hear it?
I’m going to have to say that quite often I will say an idea to Bruce and then a week later he tells me his brilliant idea… My idea is suddenly his and he owns it. This is been a running joke between us for the last 32 years!
3. What’s your cure for hiccups?
Always drinking a glass of water upside down… It never fails to work.
4. If you had to pick an actor/actress to portray you in a movie about your life, who would you pick and why?
I think it has to be Jennifer Lawrence. I know she’s much younger than I am but I always have loved her I think she could do me well!
5. What is your celebrity crush?
I have so many celebrity crushes but I honestly love Love Love J Lo, Beyoncé and Michelle Obama.
6. If animals could talk, which would be the rudest?
Without a doubt cats… I find them very cold, rude and aloof.
7. If you could have a song play every time you enter a room, what would it be?
I am woman hear me roar… That is my all time favourite song and over lockdown I sang it every single morning while on my headstand chair. It’s strong it’s powerful and I love the meaning behind it.
8. What’s the weirdest thing a guest has done at your house?
Either I’m really boring or I just have forgotten , but generally everyone that comes to our house is a friend .
I can’t think of anything weird that has ever happened at home…
9. What is something that everyone looks stupid doing?
I have to say karaoke… I think we all think we sounds fabulous, and after a few drinks we try and copy the original singer and never ever get it as good as they do.
10. What sport would be the funniest to add a mandatory amount of alcohol to?
I think it would have to be high jump, I think it’s kind of a funny sport anyway and add a few Vinos… It could be very entertaining.
11. What set of items could you buy that would make the cashier the most uncomfortable?
That’s a funny question but I don’t think there’s anything you could buy that would embarrass a cashier… I think they have seen it all before. I also wouldn’t be that person buying it because if it was embarrassing I’ll be buying it online.
12. If you could ask your pet 3 questions, what would they be?
How much do you love me?
Am I your favourite?
What are you thinking when you stare at me and move your head from side to side?
13. You have $7 and five minutes at the grocer
Easy ..a block of Cadbury dairy milk and a packet of Allens snakes to be eaten together…
14. If roses are red, why are violets blue?
Because purple doesn’t rhyme.
15. What would be the creepiest thing you could say while passing a stranger on the street?
I quite often find saying hello to people makes people embarrassed and not know what to say.
2020, that’s a wrap!
To my friends & collaborators – I wish you all have a productive 2021, with lots of ticked boxes on your ‘To Do List’, great events planned or attended, laughter and health (maybe health should have been my first one on the list). Be kind & supportive.
Love,
Alex
